Rick and Rosie Johnson, owners
The year was 1974. Gas rationing was in effect and an
enterprising gas station owner in Chesapeake, Virginia told
customers there would be no such thing as even and odd days
to fill up at his station. He told folks he had plenty of gas and he’d
fill up their car no matter what number was on their license plate!
Well, the media got wind of things, and so as long as customers were
lining up to buy his gas, and the media was there, he decided to buy a load
of tires and put them where ever there was room! And, he sold them cheap.
His name was Henry Johnson. He may not have made a lot of money at first,
but he did make a lot of friends. Ten years and eighteen tire stores later, Henry
Johnson was still a nice guy and he was certainly doing better financially!
Henry sold his stores in North Carolina and Virginia in 1986 and moved to Florida.
He invited his son, Rick, to join him and in 1997, Rick branched out on his own.
